Michelle is married and a mother of 3. Her first son was born at 31 weeks due to HELLP syndrome and severe preeclampsia. He spent 7 weeks in the NICU. With her second baby, she developed gestational hypertension and had a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks. After being home for a week or so, she developed post-partum preeclampsia with pulmonary edema and pleural effusions. In her third pregnancy, she had gestational diabetes and delivered at 36 weeks and 4 days due to severe preeclampsia. All 3 boys are healthy, happy and keep her busy.
Professionally, Michelle graduated in Dec. 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southeast Missouri State University. She worked in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at St. Louis Children's Hospital for almost 5 years before leaving to be a travel nurse in the PICU for another 4 years. While traveling in Denver, she met her husband and once they got married, she moved to Colorado. For the last 6 yrs, she has been working as an adult Intensive Care Unit nurse. She is currently working on a Masters of Science degree in Nursing in Forensic Nursing. Since the birth of her first preeclampsia baby, she has developed a passion to learn about preeclampsia and do whatever she can to help other women through their high-risk pregnancies and beyond. She is considering a switch to Obstetrical Nursing and possibly a post-masters program in either Certified Nurse Midwifery or a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner Program.
